About the Author
Now an independent scholar and writer, Nathaniel Gilbert has more
than three decades’ experience as a journalist, foreign correspondent,
editor, columnist and business consultant. During the course of his career,
he has written more than two million words for publication—including books,
plays, short stories, research reports and magazine articles on finance,
international trade and management. He was a reporter for International
News Service, Senior Editor of Research Institute of America, editor of
the Journal of Financial Accounting, columnist for Entrepreneur
magazine, senior writer for the American Management Association’s
Management Review, and a contributing editor of Across the
Board (The Conference Board), Asset Finance & Leasing Digest,
Euromoney, Financier, Trade Finance, United
States Banker, Venture and several other business
publications. On assignment in Buenos Aires for Euromoney,
he wrote an analysis of Argentina’s new economic free-trade initiative—based
on personal interviews with several of that nation’s cabinet members
during the Menem administration.
Gilbert’s corporate positions have included public relations director
of Foster Parents Plan (an international charity for child development),
corporate communications consultant of Colorguard Corporation,
advertising and public relations director of Times Fiber Communications,
and consultant to several industrial and financial services firms, including
Merrill Lynch, Coopers & Lybrand and a division of Greyhound Corporation.
In the course of his work for public relations agencies, he was involved
with projects for the European Common Market and West German
Federal Republic.
Gilbert attended Georgia Institute of Technology and holds B.S.
(Journalism) and M.A. (American Civilization) degrees from New
York University. He has been adjunct professor at Bridgeport University
and taught courses in entrepreneurial management in the adult education
extension divisions of Westport and Wilton, Connecticut. He has traveled
extensively in Europe and Latin America.
Gilbert is author of Wright and Wrong, a play about the Wright Brothers,
and co-author of New York: World Financial Capital, published by
Euromoney. He has been a member of the American Society of
Journalists and Authors and is now an active member of the Great Decisions
program of the Foreign Policy Association, the United Nations Association
of the USA, and the International Dickens Fellowship.
